The Extra with Shannon Brinias - July 13, 2020

On Monday's "The Extra", we spoke to Alexea Veneracion, Communications Manager for Visit COS, and Aaron Winter, of the Flying W Ranch, on the weekend's reopening of the Flying W, an iconic special event attraction that was destroyed in the Waldo Canyon Fire June 26th, 2012.  The Flying W Ranch originally was slated to reopen prior to Memorial Day weekend, but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed those plans.  Under health department guidance, the Ranch has redesigned its dining and event space to have social distancing.  More information can be found at www.FlyingW.com.

Monday on KRDO's "The Extra", we marked June 15th as Global Elder Abuse Awareness Day, by talking to El Paso County Department of Human Services' Aric Bidwell, Adult and Family Services Manager, and Dayton Romero, with Silver Key Senior Services and with the El Paso County Elder Abuse Coalition. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is a chance to shine a light on the problems of physical, emotional, and financial abuse of elders. On Monday's "The Extra", we featured El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman about the Primary and General Elections, focus on important dates:   TODAY (June 1st) is the last day for voters who are affiliated with a political party to change or withdraw their affiliation if they wish to vote in a different party's primary election.  It's also the last day for unaffiliated voters to choose a party preference and receive only that party's primary ballot.  Unaffiliated voters who do not choose a party preference will receive both a Republican and Democratic ballot in their packet. They can only vote one ballot   On June 8th, ballots will be mailed, with Military and Overseas ballots already having been mailed.   The Citizens Service Center Voter Service and Polling Center opens on June 8th, as well.
