Saturday’s second un-crewed test of the SpaceX Starship from Boca Chica, Texas, was twice as long as the initial flight in April, but ended the same way the first one did – in a spectacular Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly (NASA-speak for an explosion). Rather than focusing on what went wrong, SpaceX owner Elon Musk is touting the achievements of the latest launch.

The total number of suicides among military members and their families dipped slightly in 2022, but the percentage of active-duty troops who took their own lives rose slightly over the same period. 70% of suicides among enlistees involve a firearm and an independent committee earlier this year recommended that the Dept. of Defense implement a series of gun-safety measures for active-duty personnel and reservists. So far, Def. Sec. Lloyd Austin has shied away from including such measures in the Pentagon’s suicide-prevention initiatives.
