Three people were killed and 12 others were injured when “several active shooters” opened fire at a crowded intersection in Philadelphia’s South Street entertainment district late Saturday night – one of a string of mass shootings that erupted across the country over the weekend, officials said. The Philadelphia shooting was one of at least five across the nation involving four or more victims in a violent 27-hour span, including one that left three people dead and 11 injured in Chattanooga, Tennessee, another in which three people were killed at a graduation party in Socorro, Texas, and yet another that left a 14-year-old girl dead and eight people injured at a strip mall in Phoenix, Arizona, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a website that tracks shootings across the nation. In total, nine people were killed and 38 injured in the five shootings.

As of June 2, 2022, there are 22 presumptive or confirmed monkey pox cases across several U.S. states, including California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. The most recent presumptive cases were reported in Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Chicago. But the World Health Organization has said it doesn't believe this will turn into a pandemic. Dr. Wildes has been kept pretty busy at her hospital doing research on it and can answer all of your questions about who's at risk, vaccine stockpiles and if we need to worry about "variants" of this too. Plus: The W.H.O has also reported that 650 children across the globe have been found to have probable cases of severe hepatitis with an unknown cause. Approximately one third of these cases have been detected in the U.S. Of the 650 probable cases, at least 38 or 6% of children have required transplants, WHO officials said. And finally: Despite signs that the latest COVID-19 surge in the Northeast may be abating, more than 110,000 children tested positive for the virus, last week, new data from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) reveals. This marks the seventh consecutive week of increases, and the highest weekly total since late February.

Brad Garrett ABC News - June 2, 2022 - KRDO’s Afternoon News
Thursday Jun 02, 2022
Thursday Jun 02, 2022
As I watched the mass shooting unfold at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX, a panic set in. I could see that no one was going inside and that meant that there was no enforcement entry to the classroom, and that meant that with each minute, another child's life was in danger. One thing I can't tell you is why the Uvalde police Chief waited. Everyone in law enforcement is trained to go toward a shooter, not to stand around. The possibility of getting shot is part of being an oath sworn officer of the peace. I speak from experience as I have done dozens of these high-risk entries in my career. Watching the press briefing for the mass shooting at Saint Francis Hospital and the clear and concise timeline given by the Tulsa Police Chief drew such a stark comparison between the two mass shootings. Not just because in Tulsa, the response to go into the hospital and get the gunman was without hesitation, but because of the amount of information given to the public less than 24 hours after the episode. It's been 9 days since Uvalde and we still don't have all of the details. Last week, FBI director Christopher Wray, during a Congressional hearing, warned that so called "lone wolf shooters" carrying out an attack for whatever reason are perhaps the most, active imminent threat the nation faces currently. If the past 2 weeks is any indication, that warning is beyond urgent

President Biden is set to meet with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell this afternoon to discuss rising inflation rates and the general state of the global economy. The meeting comes as Biden faces low approval ratings and sky-high inflation. The White House plans to spend June “making a concerted effort to communicate on our accomplishments to date on the economy” and how they plan to tackle inflation, according to a White House official. The first step in that strategy was an op-ed from the president himself in this morning’s Wall Street Journal, in which Biden laid much of the responsibility for the current inflation crisis at the feet of the Fed.

Several people in England have tested positive for monkeypox, according to the U.K. Health Security Agency. As of Friday, 20 cases of the disease were confirmed in Britain, though that number could change Monday when a new update is expected to be released. Dr. Susan Hopkins, chief medical adviser for the UK Health Security Agency, noted that new cases of monkeypox are being detected “on a daily basis.” The most common symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and muscle aches. In more severe cases, patients can develop a rash and lesions that often begin on the face before spreading to the rest of the body. Most people recover within two to four weeks. The current outbreak has led to cases being detected in eleven countries in total, including two in the United States. Although there have been no cases of death reported in the U.S., monkeypox has led to death in as many as 1 in 10 people in Africa who contract the disease. While on his trip to Asia, President Biden said cases of monkeypox are “something that everybody should be concerned about.”
