Running 106 Miles to Raise Funds for Native Americans in Need
Tim Gore is an ultra runner. He is also a board member of Springs based, One Nation Walking Together. On July 27, he and others are running the 106 mile Maah Daah Hey trail in North Dakota to raise funds for native tribes who were severely impacted by this year's bomb cyclone. The public is invited to participate!

Divide Man is Injured When Fireworks Exploded in his Pocket
Justin Bryden's (L) girlfriend, Mandy Campbell (R), told KRDO they were celebrating the 4th when the fireworks in his pocket exploded as he was holding other lit fireworks in his hand. The incident happened in a Springs neighborhood and was captured on doorbell video Campbell is sharing so that others will know the importance of fireworks safety. Campbell was injured as well.

Mike Smith, Director of Training, and Janet Bennett, Event Coordinator, commit their time to serving veterans by matching those in need with service dogs they have meticulously trained. A veteran might need a service dog for a number of reasons and the right match is essential. Mike's dog is a 113 lb. German Shepard named Chance. Chance is a gentle, all business dog on a mission and among the finest examples of Victory Service Dogs' and Mike's work.

El Paso County Commissioner, Mark Waller, confirmed his plans to run for the 4th judicial district attorney office. Dan May is the incumbent and is term-limited. 2020 will be his last year in office. Waller previously served as deputy district attorney for the 10th judicial district in Pueblo and has served three terms in the state house.

Springs Tuskegee Airman Honored
On the 75th anniversary of D-Day, 95 year old, Frank Macon, one of a small group of surviving Tuskegee airman in Colorado, was treated to a flight on a T-6 training aircraft. Macon is a Colorado native and trained in the T-6 as he was learning to fly.

Community Veteran's Fair Open to all Military, Veterans and their Families
The City of Fountain is hosting a Community Veterans Fair Saturday, June 8, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Welte Education Center, 330 Lyckman Drive. The Fair is open to all Military, Veterans and their families.
Mt. Carmel Veteran’s Service Center and Peak Military Care Network have teamed up with the City of Fountain to make an event they expect will grow in participation. 13 Employers will be on hand actively recruiting and ready to interview. Organizations will also be on hand to assist with employment including the Pikes Peak Work Force Center and Mt. Carmel. 12 additional organizations will be on hand focusing on Quality of Life and 7 focused on Health & Wellness.

Tree Cleanup a Challenge for City Forester and Springs Residents
Many of you are dealing with downed trees from the recent snowstorm. City Forester, Dennis Will, says the department gives priority to downed and damaged city trees and trees in the public right of way. Crews usually focus on trees blocking the public right of way or pose a danger to the public.
Will says the City does not respond to trees down on private property unless power lines are involved or lives are endangered.
For trees on private property, the challenge now is cleanup. Visit the city's website for a list of contractors here: coloradosprings.gov/downtree

Pikes Peak Region Bases Contenders for Space Command Location
In a story we've followed for you, the Air Force is preparing to choose the permanent home for U.S. Space Command this summer.
Three bases in the Pikes Peak region are front runners to serve as permanent host to Space Command. Those include Peterson, Schriever and Cheyenne Mountain Air Station. The National Cybersecurity Center based here in the Springs has been involved in the effort to bring Space Command here.
We spoke with Frank Backes, President of the Space Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Space ISAC) attached to the National Cybersecurity Center.
