On Saturday, March 12 starting at 9:30 a.m. the SEW Coalition (Social Emotional Wellness) of the TriLakes area partners with Youth Documentary Academy to present “Year of the Story: Monumentaries.” This event utilizes poignant youth-produced films on topics of teen mental health and suicide prevention to generate intergenerational conversations between youth, their educators, parents and caregivers and community members. Conversations will be facilitated by trained mental health professionals and volunteers. The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lunch and refreshments will be provided. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett made a secret trip to Moscow over the weekend to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in an effort to try to end the bloodshed in Ukraine. Bennett’s office says the sit down was a move supported by President Biden. Israel has refused requests by Ukraine for military assistance given its security concerns in Syria where Russian troops are stationed. Bennett says Israel has a quote “moral duty” to mediate between Russia and Ukraine even if the chances of success are small. Bennett hasn’t revealed the details of his talk with Putin, so it’s unclear what if anything was accomplished. Since leaving the Kremlin, Bennett’s office says he’s spoken 3 times with Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelenskyy but added nothing else.

One of the cornerstones of a healthy life involves enjoying a healthy diet. Highlighting the importance of healthy eating, March is recognized as National Nutrition Month, a time of the year when health experts encourage people to make healthier dietary choices and learn more about food and nutrition.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), fewer than 1 in 7 adults eat enough fruit and fewer than 1 in 10 children and adults eat the recommended daily amount of vegetables. Poor nutrition can also contribute to many costly conditions, including obesity, heart disease and some cancers. The CDC has also found that healthy eating patterns help people live longer and lower their risk for serious health problems, such as, type 2 diabetes.

The Great Resignation has focused primarily on employees who are lower wage workers employed in service industries. As with any major societal shift that occurs, we often find ourselves asking why? Whether it is poor working conditions, burnout, low wages, or more attractive job opportunities, the reasons are abundant but the goal is the same. People have been exiting their jobs in record numbers in search of something better and more meaningful. An often missed aspect of this resignation is the realization that it is not just the working class exiting en masse. More executives and managers have been leaving their leadership roles for reasons that are solely all financially driven. According to MarketWatch, nearly 39 million people have quit their jobs in 2021; recent figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show 4.16 million professionals departed in October, a slight dip from September’s record haul of 4.36 million.

Economic discontent is hurting President Joe Biden and his party's midterm election prospects, with underwater ratings for his handling of the invasion of Ukraine, a split on the pandemic and weak scores on personal attributes including leadership, handling a crisis and mental sharpness. The result: A career-low 37% of Americans approve of Biden’s job performance overall, with 55% disapproving. But it should be noted that, looking at data going back to Harry Truman's administration, only two presidents have had approval ratings this low heading into their first State of the Union address, which Biden delivers tomorrow night. Those two were Donald Trump, at 36%, and Gerald Ford, at 37%. Disapproval has been higher, by a non-significant 3 percentage points, only for Trump. And speaking of the former president, over the weekend, Trump delivered the keynote address at CPAC, using the platform to repeat his praise of Vladimir Putin as “smart” as he called American leaders “dumb.” As president, Trump was constantly called out on his reluctance to condemn Putin and, at a summit in Helsinki, took the Russian leader’s word over that of his own intelligence agencies. The CPAC speech was also an opportunity for Trump to give the strongest indication yet that he intends to run in 2024. “We did it twice, and we’ll do it again,” Trump told the crowd, once again falsely claiming again that he won the 2020 election. Trump reminded those who want to move on that he remains the most powerful voice in Republican politics. Bad news for those in the party who want to move forward instead of constantly looking backward.
