It was the case the country was riveted by in 2016 when mother and wife Sherri Papini disappeared. She turned up weeks later on Thanksgiving Day of 2016 claiming she had been held by two women in chains and branded after she was kidnapped. Now 6 years later the FBI says she lied about the whole thing. She has denied that until last week when she signed a plea deal admitting he made it up. Today she will appear remotely in federal court to officially enter her guilty plea and admit it was a lie. She won't learn her sentence until this Summer. She could get a max of 20 years in prison.

With an infusion of $2.7M from the City’s reserves, Mayor John Suthers on Monday announced the launch of “Keep It Clean COS,” a comprehensive initiative aimed at reducing litter in Colorado Springs. The program has several components. First, the $2.7M will go to purchase new street sweepers and vacuum trucks, and to add manpower to remove trash from medians, streets and other public rights of way. Second, the city is challenging businesses and private citizens to clean up their own property, whether residential or commercial. Finally, Suthers announced a new citywide award. The “Keep It Clean COS Spirit of the Springs Award” will be given annually in the fall to a resident or volunteer community group that has made a significant contribution to helping keep Colorado Springs clean.

Today, Mariah found out that Gov Jared Polis approved her request to have April 19 proclaimed "Epilepsy Awareness Day" in the state of Colorado. This is in honor of Chelsea Hutchison, who lost her life to epilepsy on April 19, 2009 at the age of 16 and every other beautiful soul that epilepsy took too soon. Chelsea's parents run a successful nonprofit, "The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation", in her memory and provide grants for seizure alert dogs to kids. Prices for food commodities like grains and vegetable oils reached their highest levels ever last month largely because of “massive supply disruptions” caused by Russia's war in Ukraine, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Index. The FAO said its Food Price Index, which it uses to track the costs of different foods, was up 12.6% since February and reached its highest point since its inception in 1990. Anything with grains, wheat, barley, and corn saw its price rise dramatically, as Russia and Ukraine combined account for 30% of global wheat exports and 20% of global corn exports. Vegetable oil prices also increased significantly, with Ukraine and Russia being the top two exporters of sunflower seed oils. The FAO also said poor weather conditions in the United States and China also were blamed for crop concerns.

The fines continue to be handed out for unruly passenger cases and today the FAA announced the largest fines ever. In July of 2021, an American Airlines passenger allegedly threatened to hurt a flight attendant. The passenger pushed the flight attendant and tried to open a cabin door. She was restrained but repeatedly hit, spat , head-butted, bit, and tried to kick the flight crew. Now, that woman has been fined $82,000 by the FAA. In another case from last July a Delta passenger also allegedly tried to open an exit door and later bit another passenger. She too had to be physically restrained. Now she has been handed a $77,000 fine. This year the FAA has proposed fines of about $2 million against passengers.
