Derek Wilson, Chief Strategy Officer and Jayme Holligan, Director of Volunteer Engagement and Community Relations, joined host Shannon Brinias to share information on services offered, rebounding from the pandemic, and ways to volunteer. They explained about the "5 Wishes" campaign, link here , with details on an informational session scheduled for July 27th at 8:30 am. On Wednesday's "The Extra", The age of which scammers target continues to get lower and the Better Business Bureau is seeing an increase in the number of teens under the age of 18 fall victim to scams. Contrary to what many believe, The Better Business Bureau has found that young people are at far greater risk of being scammed than seniors. In 2020, 56.6% of people age 18-24 who were exposed to a scam ended up losing money. By contrast, fewer than one third (31.9%) of those 65-plus who were exposed lost money. On Wednesday's "The Extra", host Shannon Brinias discussed the growing sport of pickleball with guest Joe Johnson, President of the Pikes Peak Pickleball Association. PPPA has over 1000+ members and they play almost daily at area courts, including at Monument Valley Park and Bear Creek Park. Pickleball is played on a badminton-sized court (indoor or outdoor) with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. It requires a perforated plastic ball similar to a wiffle ball. PPPA offers $20 annual membership, and free lessons; more information can be found at PikesPeakPickleball.com.

We’re a couple of days away from the Friday deadline for a U-S Intelligence report on unidentified aerial phenomena that’s due to Congress. According to unnamed officials said to have been briefed on the contents of the government report, it did not find evidence that the unexplained aerial phenomena that Navy pilots have witnessed in recent years are alien spacecrafts, but the report also does not definitively say they are not. CU Boulder expert, Dr. Carol Cleland joined host Shannon Brinias to share her insights. Dr.Cleland is director of CU Boulder’s Center for the Study of Origins, and studies how scientific discovery has, throughout history, hinged on anomalies––or phenomena that researchers can’t explain in terms of our current understanding of the world.

It's a program that brings the performing arts out into the community by facilitating small-scale performances outside of private residences, places of business, and other gathering spots. It came about during the COVID-19 pandemic, but even as restrictions ease, the program is continuing to connect artists with small-scale gigs. On Tuesday's "The Extra", host Shannon Brinias focused on the Parkinson Association of the Rockies (PAR), which, in 1981,began as a small collection of support groups and currently provides services to meet the needs and challenges the Parkinson’s community faces each day. The group is marking its 40th anniversary in 2021. Guests Jodi Brown, Executive Director, and Seth Dean, Director of Development discussed critical programs and services which have a meaningful impact on the quality of life for those affected with Parkinson’s disease. They also talked about an upcoming fundraiser, the Vitality 5K, set to take place simultaneously in 4 Colorado cities on June 6th. The City of Colorado Springs is building a new Summit Visitor Center that will welcome upwards of 1 million people each year who reach the summit of Pikes Peak -America's Mountain by car, foot, bike or rail. It’s a massive project that has been under construction for three years and is anticipated to open this June. Something you may not know about this building is that it was purposefully designed to significantly reduce its impact on the fragile summit environment and aims to become the first building in the state to fully meet the rigorous Living Building Challenge. In honor of Women's History Month, Peulen shared the legacy of how Bonnema fought to become a Colorado Department of Highways (CDH) engineer working at the Eisenhower Johnson Tunnel in 1970, eventually going to court to be able to pursue the employment position. She persevered and continued to work in the tunnel, collecting samples and taking measurements, until the first bore's completion in 1973. Peulen also gave updates on the I -25 Gap Project, the US 50 and Purcell Interchange Project, as well as other updates impacting drivers in the region. On Monday's "The Extra", host Shannon Brinias talked about how 2021 will be the start of recovery for Colorado Springs, and expectations that outdoor adventure will continue to be a big driver of tourism in the region as people still feel safest in their cars and outdoors. Guests today were Doug Price, VisitCOS; Todd Marts, El Paso County Parks; and Susan Davies, Trails and Open Space Coalition.
