Better Business Bureau - July 14, 2021 - The Extra with Shannon Brinias

On Wednesday's "The Extra", The age of which scammers target continues to get lower and the Better Business Bureau is seeing an increase in the number of teens under the age of 18 fall victim to scams.  Contrary to what many believe, The Better Business Bureau has found that young people are at far greater risk of being scammed than seniors. In 2020, 56.6% of people age 18-24 who were exposed to a scam ended up losing money. Pikes Peak Pickelball Association - July 7, 2021 - The Extra with Shannon Brinias

On Wednesday's "The Extra", host Shannon Brinias discussed the growing sport of pickleball with guest Joe Johnson, President of the Pikes Peak Pickleball Association.  PPPA has over 1000+ members and they play almost daily at area courts, including at Monument Valley Park and Bear Creek Park.  Pickleball is played on a badminton-sized court (indoor or outdoor) with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. Carry the Load - May 24, 2021 - The Extra with Shannon Brinias

Curbside Culture - May 20, 2021 - The Extra with Shannon Brinias

On "The Extra" Thursday, Curbside Culture was in the spotlight. It's a program that brings the performing arts out into the community by facilitating small-scale performances outside of private residences, places of business, and other gathering spots. It came about during the COVID-19 pandemic, but even as restrictions ease, the program is continuing to connect artists with small-scale gigs. Parkinson Association of the Rockies - May 18, 2021 - The Extra with Shannon Brinias

On Tuesday's "The Extra", host Shannon Brinias focused on  the Parkinson Association of the Rockies (PAR), which, in 1981,began as a small collection of support groups and currently provides services to meet the needs and challenges the Parkinson’s community faces each day.  The group is marking its 40th anniversary in 2021.  Guests Jodi Brown, Executive Director, and Seth Dean, Director of Development discussed critical programs and services which have a meaningful impact on the quality of life for those affected with Parkinson’s disease. Summit Visitor Center - May 6, 2021 - The Extra with Shannon Brinias

The City of Colorado Springs is building a new Summit Visitor Center that will welcome upwards of 1 million people each year who reach the summit of  Pikes Peak -America's Mountain by car, foot, bike or rail. It’s a massive project that has been under construction for three years and is anticipated to open this June. On KRDO's "The Extra" Thursday, guest Michelle Peulen, CDOT Region 2 Communications Manager, introduced listeners to Janet Bonnema, CDOT engineer and women’s rights advocate. In honor of Women's History Month, Peulen shared the legacy of how Bonnema fought to become a Colorado Department of Highways (CDH) engineer working at the Eisenhower Johnson Tunnel in 1970, eventually going to court to be able to pursue the employment position. Wednesday is National Hearing Day.   Hearing Industries Association (HIA) President, Kate Carr joined "The Extra" to talk about new research showing fewer than 16 percent of adults ages 20-69 who need a hearing aid use one. The Extra with Shannon Brinias - Michelle Peulen with CDOT - February 11, 2021

On KRDO's "The Extra", guest Michelle Peulen, Region 2 Communications Manager for CDOT shared information on ongoing and upcoming road projects throughout the Pikes Peak area.  She shared updates on projects like the I-25 South Gap, MAMSIP, and the US 50 Purcell Blvd. Interchange.  She also shared winter driving resources that can be accessed by going to codot.gov/travel/winterdriving.  Peulen also directed listeners to sign up for text alerts in certain construction zones to help provide them with real-time traffic alerts.  For travelers using I-25 between Monument and Castle Rock, text "I25GAP" to 21000 to get alerts; for travelers using the Pueblo West interchange of US 50 & Purcell, text "US50Purcell" to 313131.  For information on upcoming agency plans, click here.

On Wednesday's "The Extra", host Shannon Brinias was joined by Adah Rodriguez, VP Marketing with the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado and Paul Meyers-Bennett, VP Development and Operations for the BBB of Southern Colorado.  They discuss how unemployment scams are just one of the many forms of identity theft that is on the rise. The FTC reports 1.4 million identify theft claims for 2020, double compared to 2019.  Also, the BBB warns against sharing COVID-19 vaccination cards publicly because of risks of fraud, and be wary of "romance scams" as we near Valentine's Day.   More information can be found at
