Oct. 17, The Home Front exhibit opens
WWII was fought both at home and overseas, but in different ways.
Public opening Saturday, Oct. 17
Time: 10 a.m.
“The story of WWII aviation must include the Home Front; the social change and disruption, the building of a large military, the training of airmen, the building of aircraft, the innovation, in short the marshalling of America, were critical to success in the war,” said Gene Pfeffer, historian at the National Museum of World War II Aviation. “WWII was fought both at home and overseas, but in different ways.”
When America went to war in 1941, the entire nation went to war. The compelling story of the Home Front during WWII is a key focus of the museum. Volunteers have worked for several months to complete the planning and installation of the exhibit area that will tell the story of how America became the “Arsenal of Democracy,” providing war equipment, aircraft, weapons, materials, and expertise to defeat the fascist regimes of Germany and Japan.
The Home Front exhibit will consist of four display areas: The War at Home, Mobilizing America, Building American Air Power, and Women Who Served.
Standard admission prices are in effect. Masks and social distancing required.
The purchase of advance on-line tickets is encouraged. Advance ticket prices are:
Adult $13
Child (4-12) $ 9
Senior & Military $11
WWII Veterans Free admission
