On Monday's "The Extra", host Shannon Brinias and guests discussed the construction progress of the new Pikes Peak Summit Complex, a 38,000-square-foot complex which will include a newly designed and constructed Summit Visitor Center including a mechanical space and the Colorado Springs Utilities communications facility. The U.S. Army is also constructing a new High-Altitude Research Laboratory, which they will fund. The existing Summit House, constructed in 1963, will remain fully operational to visitors throughout the construction process. The new Summit Visitor Center, designed by local firm RTA Architects in partnership with GWWO Architects of Baltimore, is being constructed by local contractor GE Johnson.  It will offer sweeping views and feature digitally interactive displays focused on the history of Pikes Peak.  Guests on the show are Stuart Coppedge, lead architect for the Pikes Peak Summit Complex Project with RTA Architects, and Sandy Elliott, Operations Administrator for Pikes Peak – America's Mountain.  They discussed  the project status, what visitors can expect next year,  how this project will be more sustainable, the Living Building Challenge, project funding and several ways to get involved in giving to the summit.  (Rendering below provided by RTA Architects/ GWWO Architects)  More information can be found at:    Pikes Peak Summit Complex project and Give to Pikes Peak .

Sherry Drew oversees leasing operations for the Citadel and Chapel Hills Malls.  She and the management team at both locations are adding new businesses to the mall, seeing them grow and expand.  On the customer experience side, Santa is coming this year and bringing new technology that makes connecting with him easier than ever.  They're bringing tables back to their food courts, hosting voting locations and house a COVID testing site.  Chapels Hills Mall has been selected as the site for a new apartment community located in part in the former Sears building.  It's all very much worth a look!

The Simple Gift Series is a humanities-based, early childhood program that combines literacy, music, movement and language. These thirteen episodes are a response to issues of access to quality learning and social emotional standards during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent quarantine, particularly for children ages birth to seven years.
