The total number of suicides among military members and their families dipped slightly in 2022, but the percentage of active-duty troops who took their own lives rose slightly over the same period. 70% of suicides among enlistees involve a firearm and an independent committee earlier this year recommended that the Dept. of Defense implement a series of gun-safety measures for active-duty personnel and reservists. So far, Def. Sec. Lloyd Austin has shied away from including such measures in the Pentagon’s suicide-prevention initiatives.

Colorado Springs Airport (COS) announces a significant surge in passenger numbers for the month of September, marking a nearly 12 percent increase in traffic compared to the same period last year. The effort to identify the bodies found inside a Penrose Funeral Home is much farther along than one might expect. According to the El Paso County Coroner, Dr. Leon Kelly, 150 of the 189 bodies found inside that "Return to Nature" funeral facility have now been positively identified.
