The U.S. Census Bureau is urging people in Colorado to respond now to ensure their communities don’t lose out on federal funding for critical public services for the next 10 years. Responses to the 2020 Census will inform how more than $675 billion in federal funding will be allocated to communities across the country every year for the next decade for essential programs and services including housing, transportation, health care, education, and emergency response. Emily Kelley, 2020 U.S. Census Partnership Outreach Coordinator spoke on KRDO's Morning News Friday.

We've reported on the story of a man who kept 30 chihuahuas in his home. He cared for them well and kept them healthy, but the Humane Society had to step in and remove 25 of them to keep the man on the right side of the law. On today's "The Extra", we’re talking to CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, a local nonprofit that works to advocate for victims of child abuse and neglect. Child abuse was already a crisis before the pandemic, and now it’s an even bigger crisis. This morning, we’re going to be touch on how CASA helps kids, how COVID-19 has affected their mission, and what community members can do to pitch in. Our guests are Angela Rose who is the Executive Director of our local CASA Program and Howard Black who is on the Board of Directors at CASA, previously the Public Information Officer for the Colorado Springs Police Department.
